A new year

I find it funny how at the beginning of each new year people plan to do the same thing they do every new year.

Lose weight
Quit smoking
Be nicer
Don't spend as much
Exercise more
ETC

No wonder 95% of resolutions don't make it to the spring...you can't just say "I'm going to do X", you need a plan...you need a lifestyle change. If you want to be nicer, you may have to incorporate new people into your life (or remove some of the old).

It's a new year, lets start fresh...how? So often I hear (and say) some of these things, but I find it to be interesting that no one really knows how.

So this year, we started fresh by doing something totally new for both of us. We went hiking on January 2 in 8 degree weather. We went and saw beautiful ice falls, and I only slipped twice...in the same spot. The bruises today are quite pretty.

This year is going to be a hectic one for me. I need to get about 450 more internship hours in by August, take 3 more classes between now and August, all while working my full time job and trying to continue to have a happy, healthy relationship. Oh and maybe get some time in with my family and/or my friends.

My resolution, so to speak, is to keep taking it slowly. The first two weeks of the year I plan on going on a hard core diet...but I do this every year to take off the holiday weight gain. This year I have decided on the Special K Challenge to start with. Cereal for breakfast, fruit snack, veggie wrap (sometimes with turkey) for lunch, either a snack bar, fruit, banana bread, or celery with light cheese for a snack, protein shake or protein bar for dinner, and then another fruit or veggie snack for a treat. I think the snack at night is going to help out bunches since I usually don't want to eat a full dinner post interning.

My plan, 1-2 weeks doing that, then focus on just being healthy...that is unless I go really crazy and try the 21 day vegan cleanse...we'll see about that.

Also, I have done wii fit 7 out of the last 8 days so I'm going to keep going with that (or the Jillian Michaels wii game) for the month of January. Hopefully in February I'll add some workout DVDs and then maybe by April or May I'll feel like waking up early enough to start running again...but no races until after the internship (unless the Warrior race is before, that I might do).

Other than that...happy new year, and enjoy some pictures.
